Updated Brand, Unchanged Vision

Design

The new logo design for the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), is a vibrant and modern reinterpretation of our identity, inspired by the timeless beauty of stained-glass windows and mosaics often seen in Catholic churches and cathedrals. These artistic elements have long been integral to the Catholic church, symbolizing stories of faith, community, and resilience.

Central to the design is a stylized torch, a symbol that resonates deeply with the ideals of light, safety, and hope. This torch pays homage to the Statue of Liberty, a powerful emblem of freedom and a beacon for immigrants and refugees seeking a new beginning in America.

Founded as a Catholic organization, CLINIC draws inspiration from the rich traditions and values of the Catholic Church. Our commitment to serving and advocating for the vulnerable and marginalized is rooted in the Catholic social teaching of solidarity and the dignity of every human person.

The stained-glass and mosaic elements in our logo reflect this heritage, representing the light and hope we strive to bring to those we serve.

Our refreshed logo moves away from the traditional legal scales, which are primarily associated with legal professions, to embrace a symbol universally recognized. By featuring only our acronym, CLINIC, the design aligns with how people most commonly refer to us, enhancing our brand’s visibility and recognition.

The color palette of the new logo draws on elements of the American experience, celebrating the diverse community we serve. It incorporates shades that evoke the spirit of the nation and the contributions of immigrants and refugees. The colors reflect the serious nature of CLINIC's work and convey a dynamic, modern and approachable image.

This new logo design not only honors our Catholic roots but also encapsulates our mission to provide hope and support to immigrants and refugees.

It is a symbol of our enduring commitment to justice, compassion, and the transformative power of solidarity.

Tone

CLINIC's tone is compassionate, inspired by faith and accompaniment, and authoritative, rooted in our years of experience.

Our voice is grounded in Catholic social teaching, emphasizing dignity, hope, and community, while also being informed, approachable, and inclusive, celebrating the diverse experiences of those we serve.

Colors

Our primary colors are Star-Spangled, Ellis Island, Lady Liberty, Amber Waves, and Golden Opportunity.
These represent the core palette of CLINIC.

Star-Spangled

A light blue reminiscent of the clear skies and the blending of the blue and white stars found on the American flag, representing unity, hope, and the enduring spirit of freedom.

Ellis Island

A deep, rich blue that echoes the vast Atlantic Ocean crossed by countless immigrants and refugees, symbolizing their courage, hope, and the pursuit of a better future.

Lady Liberty

A shade of green inspired by the patina of the Statue of Liberty, symbolizing freedom and resilience. This color honors the immigrants who built the iconic monument, representing their enduring contributions to America.

Amber Waves

A warm, inviting orange inspired by the fields of grain in America’s heartland, symbolizing abundance, prosperity, and the essential contributions of immigrants to American agriculture.

Golden Opportunity

A vibrant gold that represents the promise and potential of the American Dream. This color also honors the countless contributions made by immigrants and refugees, who have enriched the nation with their hard work, dedication, and diverse perspectives.

Type

The Roma typeface was chosen for its timeless style, versatility, and legibility. It pays homage to the inscriptions engraved on national monuments like the Lincoln Memorial (pictured on the left). Unlike the single-width, all-caps lettering of its inspiration, Roma offers a range of sizes and widths, giving it a contemporary and approachable aesthetic.

Heading 1

A Nation of Immigrants, a Network of Hope

Heading 2

I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

Heading 3

CLINIC reflects the church’s own tradition of exile, flight, and migration. Catholic social teaching identifies the Holy Family, in their flight to Egypt, as the “archetype of every refugee family.” Jesus identified with newcomers (“I was a stranger and you welcomed me”), so that in the Catholic tradition, newcomers “image” God.

Body

The task of welcoming immigrants, refugees and displaced persons into full participation in the Church and society with equal rights and duties continues the biblical understanding of the justice of God reaching out to all peoples and rectifying the situation of the poor, the orphans, the widows, the disadvantaged, and especially in the Old Testament, the alien and the stranger.

Logo

The Statue of Liberty's torch is a ubiquitous symbol of hope, determination, and freedom. It is because of these core principles that we have chosen it as the primary symbol of CLINIC's brand redesign.

Additionally, a thoughtfully designed wordmark aligns harmoniously with our iconic symbol, creating a symbiotic relationship that enhances the overall brand equity.

The logo features a series of recurring geometric shapes with rounded corners and sharp edges, designed to evoke a flickering torch. These shapes, referred to as "leaves," also comprise a set of secondary brand symbols known as "glyphs."

Thoughtfully Crafted

In order to maintain visual balance and versatility, the logo and supplementary graphics were designed along a grid. This creates visual cohesion and consistency, as well as legibility across sizes and formats.

The wordmark was also carefully sized to ensure maximum legibility and visual balance when displayed next to the torch brand mark.

Glyphs

In addition to our main logo mark, we have created a series of glyphs that can be used alongside CLINIC's logo. These glyphs are representative of the various areas of our work, providing additional visual elements that complement and enhance the main logo mark. Each glyph is thoughtfully designed using the individual design elements of the torch icon, symbolizing different aspects of our mission.

This cohesive set of symbols adds depth and versatility to our brand's visual identity, reinforcing our commitment to providing comprehensive support and advocacy for immigrants and refugees, while maintaining a unified and recognizable brand presence.

Torch

The CLINIC torch pays homage to the Statue of Liberty, a powerful emblem of freedom and a beacon for immigrants and refugees seeking a new beginning in America.

Scales

Scales have been used in every logo design since CLINIC's inception in 1988, symbolizing our deep ties to the legal system and our ongoing commitment to justice for immigrants and refugees.

Cross

The cross is a direct call to CLINIC's founding as a Catholic-inspired organization, symbolizing that our work is rooted in Catholic social teaching and serving as the foundation for all that we do.

Book

The book symbolizes CLINIC's role as the premier immigration legal services learning and training organization, reflecting a deep commitment to instructing others in immigration legal services.

Dove

The dove is a nod to our advocacy for peace and justice, deeply rooted in our Catholic faith. It symbolizes CLINIC's hope for progress and our unwavering commitment to advancing the rights and dignity of immigrants and refugees, guided by the principles of Catholic social teaching and our belief in the inherent worth of every person.

Branch
